Throwing a vintage-themed party is the perfect excuse to indulge in a little nostalgia and fun. It’s also a great theme idea for couples celebrating their pearl, gold or diamond wedding anniversaries too. Read Function Junctions top tips for throwing a vintage-themed party.

Choose your era
There are so many great eras to choose from for a vintage-themed party. From the roaring 20’s, Forties , rockabilly 50’s to the swinging 60s and everything in between. Each decade will present amazing opportunities to go all out for a fabulously tasteful, vintage party.

Set the scene
Vintage-themed parties lend themselves perfectly to being held in an English garden or quaint village hall. Decor is extremely important for setting the scene and taking your guests back down memory lane. Look for vintage floral prints on table cloths and crochet doilies. Hang reams of bunting and paper lanterns from the ceiling and drape fairy lights to use when the sun sets.

Jam jars of flowers picked from the garden or small posey’s from your local florist or flower market will look pretty placed on tables. Luggage tags look great as name places, as well as postcards and old photos strewn across tables will give your guests something to smile about. For the 1920’s theme, add some glitz with pearls and sparkly brooches too.

Delicious food
Afternoon tea is the quintessential choice for a vintage-themed party and is surprisingly cost-effective and easy to create. Crustless finger sandwiches, warm scones, clotted cream and jam can be bought in or made. Don’t forget plenty of tea served in bone china tea pots, Pimms and bubbles poured into crystal glassware.

For an extra touch of charm, hire vintage tea sets and vintage-style props to serve your food and drink on. Pretty Vintage Things have a fabulous range of props to hire.

Jazz hands
You can’t throw a vintage party without some special music to match the theme. Choose jazz and swing live bands and acts who play tunes appropriate to your chosen era. Omnibus Edition, Charleston Chasers and The Elastic Band are perfect choices for your party.

For a laid back atmosphere, Kevin O’Brien is an excellent choice for a Sinatra-style serenade, or One Jump Ahead are certainly guaranteed to get your guests up jiving.

Dress for the occasion
Waltz, jump or ‘rock n roll’ the night away in fantastically era-appropriate outfit. 1940s tea dresses and 1950’s swing dresses and fascinators are ideal for ladies and shirts, waistcoats and slicked hair for the men.
