St Patrick's Day Party Guide

Thursday 17th March every year marks the fun, upbeat and Guinness-filled St Patrick’s Day. Originally a religious feast, St Patrick’s Day now celebrates all things within Irish culture. So grab a shamrock and don your best green outfit and get ready to read Function Junction’s guide on how to host the most incredible St Patrick’s Day party in history!

Food and Drink

Raising a pint to the Patron Saint of Ireland couldn’t be easier, as stout, particularly Guinness, is sold in most supermarkets and off licenses across the UK. Add extra pizzazz to your Irish stout by going crazy with ‘foam art’ by drawing symbols in the top of your pint. Check out these incredible, foamy creations here.

In terms of food, typical dishes include hearty Irish stews made with dumplings; potato cakes, soda bread and creamy colcannon mash are great options. Why not go crazy with the green food colouring too? Serve up green velvet cupcakes or go healthy with an antioxidant-packed, green custard Matcha tart.

Music

Music makes a party, but only the right music. For St Patrick’s Day you can’t go wrong with a folk band or seisún (pronounced: seh-shoon) to jig along too. The Function Junction has a wide selection of live bands playing everything from your traditional tunes to your favourite sing-a-long Irish songs.

Whiskey in a Jar is a four-piece band complete with mandolin, banjo and fiddles to make your night go with a swing. Want to make sure you’re doing the right steps? Ceili House is an authentic live band that even supplies a specialist Irish set dance caller to help and make sure you’re doing the correct moves.

For an Irish band who explores numerous genres, The Duffy’s (originally from West Ireland) perform rock, Motown and pop covers as well as Irish and Celtic numbers and much more. The Duffy’s hire cost also includes PA and lighting, so takes that extra stress away when planning a St Patrick's Day party.

Decorations

From Leprechauns to shamrocks, there’s only one decoration theme to follow for your St Patrick’s Day party and that’s the colour GREEN.  Fill your venue with bunting, banners and balloons, plus lots of green, white and orange Irish flags. Party Delights have a brilliant supply of St Patrick’s Day decorations and even fancy dress costumes.

March 17th presents a fantastic excuse to throw a party and celebrate the Emerald Isle. So let the music play loud and be proud to be Irish – or at least pretend to be for just one day.
