Music to match your wedding day

A wedding day is a time to reflect the bride and grooms personalities, whilst pleasing the guests and making it a truly remarkable day for everyone involved. From the moment the bride takes her first steps down the aisle to the oldies whipping it up on the dance floor at the reception, Function Junction are here to make your wedding day a super special spectacle.

By matching your entertainment to each part of the day - from the ceremony, drinks reception, wedding meal and the evening reception - there are so many ways music can enhance a wedding. Find out how the Function Junction can help to make your wedding day positively memorable, by matching music to each stage of the wedding day.

The Ceremony

The wedding ceremony is a very emotional part of the day, so you need to honour that with non-intrusive, romantic and gentle music. Space for the ceremony may be tight, therefore a solo artist to a quartet, who doesn’t need very much amplification, is a great idea for the first event of the day.

Geraldine McMahon is a harpist and a singer who has a beautiful classical style and a large repertoire of songs suited to wedding ceremonies. Geraldine McMahon has also had residences at top London hotels such as The Savoy.

Ariana String Quartet will definitely add a touch of grandeur to a wedding ceremony with their vast collection of famous classical songs including Wagner’s “Bridal March”, Mendelssohn’s “Wedding March” or Handel’s “Arrival of the Queen of Sheba”, as well as the popular Pachelbel’s “Canon” and Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons.”

Wedding Reception Drinks

The canapés are whirling out of the kitchen and the guests are happily sipping on Champagne and catching up with loved ones. The wedding reception drinks are a prime time to entertain guests whilst the bride and groom head off to have their wedding photographs taken.

A very popular style of live band is a New Orleans / Dixieland jazz band for the wedding drinks reception, mainly for its jolly, crowd pleasing and foot tapping sounds. Function Junctions The Rhythm Kings are a perfect act to create that party atmosphere, plus they have the ability to play both inside and outside and circulate the reception, so everyone will get to hear them play.

A summer wedding isn’t complete without a steel band enthusiastically playing top reggae hits such as ‘Three Little Birds’ and ‘Hot, Hot Hot’. Bring the sunshine in or outdoors with the Nostalgia Steel Band who have appeared at the Notting Hill Carnival and the Festival of Britain.

The Wedding Meal

The wedding meal or ‘wedding breakfast’ is a time for your guests to feel relaxed while they enjoy the amazing wedding feast. Make sure to create a laid back atmosphere with music that isn’t too meddlesome and doesn't interrupt your guests conversations.

Our top jazz pianist Richard Busiakiewicz is a prime choice for a superb 2 hour set of fine piano tunes during the wedding meal. Guests will feel content listening to his amazing repertoire of songs from Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald to Miles Davis, and be smug to know that he’s even played for the Queen, the Prince of Wales and at Paul McCartney’s wedding.

If you’d prefer more of a Mediterranean flavour to your music, classical guitarist Simon Davies specialises in flamenco and Spanish styles. Simon has played in many exclusive venues including London Claridges, the Salvador Dali Museum and Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons, as well performing with the Royal Shakespeare Company in the West End.

The Evening Reception

The evening reception always equals party time! It’s the part of the day to get your guests up and moving and making good use of the dance floor. To ensure your evening reception ends on a high note you need an energetic live band to carry your guests through to midnight. Function Junctions big budget acts such as Tommy T and the Belletones and The Next Level are a perfect match to an evening wedding reception because they're bursting with energy.

Tommy T and the Belletones are a 9 piece band, complete with a lively brass section. The live band won’t only perform upbeat music that appeals to all ages, they’ll also put on a fully choreographed show for your wedding guests. For floor filler after floor filler, The Next Level are another 9 piece function band based in London who are suited to create a party atmosphere with their mixed pop, R&B and hip hop set or tone it down for a soulful dinner dance.

For smaller budgets, the Function Junction recommends The Rockets or We Three, who will bring an indie edge to the evening wedding reception. The Rockets have a vast set list of both old and new rock n’ roll anthems from The Beatles, Elvis to Blink 182, and are also used to entertaining crowds of 15,000 people, so no wedding venue will be too big or small for these guys. A trio from South Wales, We Three have wide range of pop and indie tunes (including DNCE, The Killers and the Lumineers) under their studded belts, ready to delight the wedding crowd for up to 2 hours.
