Mapaluna

Ceilidh/folk

The basic version of Mapaluna consists of the duo of Becky Price (accordion) and Richard Heacock (violin), but the band can also add a caller to turn them into a full-blown barn dance band, and the line-up can be augmented with one or two extra fiddlers to provide a fuller sound, where necessary.

Becky and Richard are both well-known musicians on the folk music scene with various recording credits to their names. As one of the unlikely named Fratelli brothers (they weren’t brothers and their names weren’t Fratelli!) Richard has also composed music for films and television programmes including Arena and Grand Designs. Their musical knowledge and interest in a wide range of styles comes through in the versatility of their repertoire as can be heard on their demo tracks, for as well as English, Irish and Scottish “ceilidh” music, they can also perform French café and Eastern European folk music. This range, plus their ability to play acoustically, makes them ideal for setting a musical atmosphere at parties and events, both inside and out-of-doors.

When more than background music is required, the duo can bring along an experienced caller who will soon get even the most uncoordinated dancers enjoying reels and jigs, and creating a great family party atmosphere.

The band normally play two-and-a-half hours over a three-and-a-half hour stay and for ceilidhs their price includes a compact PA system which has the facility to play recorded music during their breaks.
