This jazz trio specialises in the “Hot Club” style of jazz which took Paris, then Europe and later the United States by storm in the 1930s. Led by guitarist Django Rheinhardt and violinist Stephane Grapelli, this music combined swing jazz with European gypsy influences, producing an evocative sound which is both smooth and vibrant at the same time!
The Morellos are recognised as one of the leading exponents on the London scene of Hot Club swing. The double bass, guitar, violin line-up authentically reproduces the original Paris sound and the trio has sensitively expanded their repertoire to include Latin numbers and literally hundreds of swing jazz “standards”. Their good-natured, melodic sound makes ideal background music - creating a happy party atmosphere without being over-obtrusive.
The trio has played at virtually every major West End Hotel and reception venue in London for private parties, weddings, corporate events and promotions. The band can play completely acoustically enabling them to move around to perform at different parts of a venue and play out-of-doors. Where more presence is required, they can provide their own portable amplification.
